Artist: Hüsker Dü
Title: Rockpalast
Format: Live concert show
Producer: German TV
Air Date: N/A
Location: N/A
Time: N/A
Notes: Rockpalast personnel have now confirmed what has
long been suspected, that Hüsker Dü never appeared
on this program: "der Archivfuchs meldet definitiv -
No Hüsker Dü!" It is likely that the source who
was mistaken about this confused the "Rockpalast"
series with the "Live from London" series. A
program from the latter series was used for the
			Makes No Sense... concert video.

Title: [none]

Notes: A Spiral of Silence (aka SOS Productions) was a
communications media outfit run by Geoffrey Alman.
The website is long gone, but some info can be
retrieved via the Internet Archive. The video was
shot outside the club, presumably on the afternoon
of the 05 May 1985 Hüsker Dü show there. It may
have been intended for airing on a local access
cable program, or might simply have been a personal
project. The interview is conducted by Alman, then a
student at UMass-Amherst. Cameraman is identified as
"Pete." The video turned up on YouTube in 2011
			bearing a 2003 copyright date.

Artist: Hüsker Dü
Title: MusiCalifornia
Format: Music & interview show
Producer: Antenne 2 [France]
Date Recorded: 02 Mar 1985
Air Date: 05 Oct 1985
Location: Ackerman Grand Ballroom, UCLA, Los Angeles CA
Time: 4 min (of 30)
Notes: French interview with Bob's answers in English,
along with some performance clips from the UCLA gig.
Recorded by iO Productions as part of an ongoing
series about LA underground music that aired on
French TV. Here's a descriptive blurb captured from
			their (now defunct) website:

In the early 1980's, iO Productions, inc.
produced a monthly half hour show about the
"underground" music scene in Los Angeles.
This show was called "MusiCalifornia" and
aired in France on Antenne 2, the government
subsidized network, for several years. The
producers of the show became known in Los
Angeles as the frenchies who were interested
in the music no one else was and as a result
were on very good terms with many bands who
got their very first TV appearances.

In 1988 the show ended its run on French TV
and quietly dissapeared...but the legacy of
this show is the unique documentation of many
bands who were not yet in the public eye and
who since has become famous. To the best of
our knowledge nobody owns footage depicting
the Los Angeles music scene in the 1980s as
well shot or edited than ours. This website
			  reflects the legacy of "MusiCalifornia".

iO Productions, inc. is now in production for
			  a rock documentary entitled "Vinerepylenoma"
featuring many of the bands and interviews
			  collected during the years "MusiCalifornia"
was on the air. We welcome inquiries from
bands or their representatives interested in
making this documentary a reality. We intend
to update this website to inform the artists
			  and performers of our progress.

			  updated 8/26/2002

Apparently, iO Productions went out of business
sometime in the late 00s, and there is no
evidence that the documentary described above
was ever released, but the trailer has been
preserved on YouTube (no Hüsker content).

Artist: Hüsker Dü
Title: All Access: 25 Years of Punk
Format: Documentary
Producer: VH1
Date Recorded: 2001
Air Date: 19 Apr 2001 (initial airing)
Time: 60 min
Notes: An ambitious project that really needed much more
than an hour to address the topic fairly. Most of
of the program centered on the early days, the
Ramones and Sex Pistols in particular, and vaulted
over the 80s to get to the all-important "grunge"
era. The Hüsker Dü segment ran a whopping 22
seconds, despite Spin writer Eric Weisbard's
assertion that "Hüsker Dü somehow went from being
this band that played really ridiculously fast --
and the whole thing about hardcore is you could
play as fast as you wanted to -- they went from
that to being the world's best rock band in
			something like three years."
Contents:
Weisbard's comment, plus a few seconds from the
"Don't Want To Know If You Are Lonely" video.

Title: VH1 Presents The 80s: New Wave/Alternative
Format: Documentary
Producer: VH1
Date Recorded: 2001
Air Date: 06 Nov 2001 (initial airing)
Time: 2:40 (out of 60 min)
Notes: Last two segments of program focus on postpunk,
and Hüsker Dü figures prominently, with a little
under three minutes of total coverage scattered
over a few brief segments. Most of these feature
Bob being interviewed, but two very short live
performance fragments are included, neither of
which is identifiable; both appear to be from 1986
or 1987. A live version of "Makes No Sense At All"
is heard over one of the clips, and continues into
the following segments. Excerpts of the "Don't
Want To Know If You Are Lonely" and "Could You Be
The One?" videos are also shown.

consists of just one song. A second song, "Again
And Again," and a six-minute interview were recorded
but not aired. (The song was originally
misidentified on the site as "We're Not Alone," but
the title has since been corrected.)

Title: Seven Ages Of Rock

Date Recorded: 2007 [Hüsker clip 14 May 1985]
Air Date: 23 Jun 2007 (initial airing)
Time: ~1 minute (of 60)
Notes: Chapter (or "Age") 6 of an ambitious BBC documentary
on the history of rock. This segment focuses mostly
on REM and Nirvana as the defining bands of
American "alternative rock," with a nod to Black
Flag for starting it all. Hüsker content is scant,
consisting of a brief clip from the 1985 Camden
Palace video and commentary from Michael Azerrad,
who credits them for introducing melody to punk,
making the genre attractive to eyeglass-wearers.
