Venue notes: Scottish Rite Temple, Santa Clara CALocated at 270 Washington St, this was the temporary home of the San Jose Scottish Rite Masonry while a new temple was being built, and available for rental to host events, including punk rock shows. According to this article, "in 1980 the old Temple was sold, but the buyer demanded immediate occupancy and so in the summer of 1980 the Rite leased an abandoned school on Washington Street in Santa Clara. With money from the sale of real estate they were able to begin construction of a new Temple...." The Masons moved out in 1984, and it's not clear what happened to the building after that. The site is currently (2016) occupied by the Washington Open Elementary School, which has been there since at least as far back as 1993. That building, however, while modernish in appearance, is of indeterminate age, so it's possible that an older one was demolished sometime between 1984 and 1993.
