Venue notes: Phoenician Club, Sydney, Australia

Once a premier live music venue in Sydney (Nirvana once played there, and it was after they got famous, too), the club was shut down in the aftermath of a big scandal resulting from the death of a 15-year-old girl named Anna Wood from an ecstasy overdose in 1995. It was located on Broadway, in the 149-179 block, now apparently the site of an apartment complex. The ecstasy scandal got lots of coverage in the Australian press and led to a crackdown on rave events. There are some details about the incident here, and a more academic treatment here. No other info available.
