Venue notes: Jesmond Cinema, Jesmond (Newcastle), Wales

Jesmond Cinema, known as Jesmond Picture House for most of its lifespan, was built as a movie theater in 1921 on Lyndhurst Avenue in the Newcastle suburb of Jesmond (specifically West Jesmond). The venue occasionally hosted live performances featuring "alternative" music artists in the 1980s and 1990s. According to its Cinema Treasures page, the theater closed down in 1993 after a Warner multiscreen complex opened nearby. The building stood empty for more than 15 years, during which time there seems to have been sentiment for preservation; ideas were floated for repurposing, but none came to pass, and the structure was demolished in 2009. As of 2021, the site was occupied by a Sainsbury's Bank and Local (grocery shop).
